About
I airbrushed the blue on these and then abandoned them for a long time in order to get more orks/ imperial guard painted for games.
I’m pleased to have got these finished, they’re one of my “nostalgia projects”, painting something similar to when I was a kid but to a better standard. Looking at the photos, I’d like to come back and do some edge highlights/highlight the gold at some point.
The bases turned out OK but I think they could do with some small rocks or other texture to break them up a bit.
Recipe
I mostly followed a recipe from an Angel Giraldez video on YouTube. Using Vallejo Model Color paints:
- Black prime
- Blue base coat
- Airbrush highlights
- Royal Blue
- Royal Blue and Sky Blue 2:1
- Royal Blue, Sky Blue and Green Grey
- Blue and Blue Ink 1:4 thinned, glaze over mid and shadow areas to return saturation
- Hull Red, Black and Blue Ink, thinned, glaze over shadows
- Blue and Black oil pin wash for recesses
- Base coat gold details with Retributor Armour and wash with Reikland Fleshshade
If I do come back for edge highlights I’ll use Royal Blue, Sky Blue and Green Grey.
The bases were done following a Juan Hidalgo video:
- Mournfang Brown
- Martian Ironcrust texture paint
- Over brush with peach flesh tone (used barbarian flesh)
- Wash with Reikland Fleshshade
- Vallejo Dark Red Ochre pigment
The AK pigment fixer left a glossy finish so I matte varnished the bases when I did the transfers.
